Good machine
I purchased this ice machine to replace the one my husband purchased me for Christmas. This is quiet, works quickly and it is easy to take with us when we leave out of town. The ice stays well, and the machine keeps making more as needed.

Super cool
We ended up buying this Frigidaire Portable Ice Maker after the ice maker in our fridge went out—and honestly, it turned out to be a better replacement than what we had before.Setup was super simple. Just add water, plug it in, and within minutes it starts producing ice. It’s surprisingly fast and keeps a steady supply going throughout the day, which is perfect for daily use or when you have people over. The 26 lbs per day capacity is more than enough for our household. We’ve never run out of ice, and it’s actually more convenient than relying on the fridge since it produces fresh batches continuously. The size is great too—compact enough to sit on the counter without taking up too much space, but still powerful enough to get the job done. It also runs fairly quietly, which was a nice bonus.Build quality feels solid, and it’s easy to clean and maintain. Overall, this ended up being a huge upgrade for us. If your fridge ice maker dies or you just want something more reliable and efficient, this is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend!

This thing is GREAT
The icemaker in my fridge broke. I was going to fix it, but I decided on this machine. It was delivered during a power failure when I was operating some appliances on a generator. In catastrophe mode, this is the way to go because the generator will operate an icemaker and keep some food from spoiling. Anyway, this thing worked right out of the box and started making ice right away. I put the ice from this machine in my freezer section’s ice storage, and dispense it through the chute on the door. We use a lot of ice, and yet the machine produces more than we consume and stops automatically. I don’t find the noise too loud, and it is periodic and it produces sound primarily when cycling. The steady-state sound is just a hum.

Affordable
The unit is compact and easy to use, and it does exactly what it is supposed to do without much setup. The only downside is that the ice will melt if you leave it sitting in the machine too long, since it does not keep the ice frozen. As long as you transfer it to the freezer, it works perfectly. Overall, a great and convenient ice maker with fast performance, just keep in mind it is meant to make ice, not store it.

Fast, large water reservoir and Consumer Reports Recommended
Not knowing much about countertop icemakers, I turned to my Consumer Reports subscription and discovered that this unit was listed as a “CR Recommended” machine. Unlike many of the units, this one has about twice the water capacity than most of them out there. It also makes ice extremely fast. I had pictured having to have the unit turned on all the time and really didn’t want that. It turns out they tell you to transfer the ice to your freezer which is exactly what I wanted. So in the matter of a couple hours it makes enough ice to fill our in-door ice hopper and we drain the machine and prop the lid open so it will dry out. A hopper full of ice last us a few days. One of the negatives of this and probably all of these units is that it produces wet ice which will freeze together in your freezer (see pictures) however they break up easily with a butter knife or even the ice dispenser itself seems to be able to break it up. Why the wet ice? If you look at my second photo you will see several metal rods poking down. These have freon passing through them and get very cold. Water is pumped from the reservoir directly below the basket into an upper tray. The compressor turns on and the rods get super cold. Ice forms and in less than 10 minutes the compressor turns off, the water drains back down into the reservoir and the ice on these rods slips off into the tray. The air in the unit really isn’t cold so the ice is wet. It then gets pushed into the tray and it starts all over again. The manual says the ice will last in the tray 18 hours but I move the full tray into our freezers hopper as soon as it is full where it sticks together. I think this explains why you have to smash commercial ice bags to break them apart as they are probably made the same way.I love the fact it was recommended by CR and the familiar Frigidaire name…as opposed to XFUNDUICE or something silly like that. I also love the price point, especially since some of the other CR Recommended units were over $700 and there was one that had the same exact rating number that was over $300! It comes with a 1 year warranty but for something like $30 you can extend it 2 years. That is probably not a bad deal but I had a hard time spending 30% more since it will pay for itself (based on purchasing ice from the gas station as we have been doing) in a few short months.Oh, and shame on the well known appliance company that won’t stand behind our 2020 covid-built refrigerator with built-in icemaker. The only reason their repairman is lonely these days is because they refuse to honor warranty claims.

Chewy fast ice!
I’ve only had my little red beauty two days, so I will update down the road if I have any issues.First, make sure you let your ice maker sit on the counter a couple hours before you fire it up. They always are on their side or upside when you order this kind of stuff! Meanwhile, you can get it all cleaned out and ready to go!Second addressing noise issues. I personally think it is very quiet. A low hum when running, similar to a good refrigerator. Barely noticeable background noise. Makes a small noise dumping ice of course, but I don’t know how you could expect that to be silent! The ice starts out a bit smaller at first and got to its normal size of maybe 3/4” wide by an inch long after a batch or two. First batch took about 9 minutes, I’d say 6-7 after that when it had gotten fully chilled.I got maybe 4-5 batches from one fill of water, but that’s a bit hard to say because I couldn’t keep my fingers out of it from eating it as soon as it’d drop some! Now for the important part. (In my book). I’m a long time DEDICATED ice chomper. Me and my dentist have a love/hate relationship. My favorite of course, is the tiny little “sonic ice.” I have bought one other ice maker, that was supposed to be pellet ice. (NOT the $500 GE). Paid around $200. It takes up like 3 times the counter space, and ya better be patient to get enough for a decent glass. Pull up a chair, start a movie, and WAIT. Then, it was still too hard for my liking. Currently lounging on a shelf in the garage after using maybe 6 times. This guy has little oblong domes, very “white” ( iykyk) meaning it’s soft and chewable. Kind of like compacted slush. I’m happy, teeth are happy, dentist, probably not so much!Even after putting in freezer to save, the ice I use later returns to a pretty chewy state after a couple minutes in your drink. For the price point, I’d say DO IT. As others have mentioned, it you are having a pool party with 20 people, thus ain’t your guy. But if it’s you and another, it’s great for on demand, “soft” ice!

Great for quick, on-demand ice
The media could not be loaded.
I purchased this product because the city water where I live is not good to drink. I am also leasing so a filter system isnt an option.I use a water dispenser for all my drinking and cooking. This unit fits perfectly on top, which helps refilling the icemaker more efficient. The icemaker is rather loud while making ice, hence the location on carpeted floor and where I can close the door. It does make ice quickly (8-13 min) but does not keep the ice frozen like a freezer does. This means you have to constantly transfer the ice to your freezer. It makes 9 cubes at a time, regardless of size. The ice is wet so it tends to stick together once in the freezer. I just use the scoop to break them up.Smaller ice cubes are crystal clear, large ice cubes come out a bit cloudy. (using bottled water)This product is great for on-demand ice, but does not replace a full-size icemaker.Yes, it probably makes 26lbs of ice in 24 hours as described, but who wants to babysit that long?I make a couple full baskets at a time and it suits my needs.

Nice while it lasted.
I’ve purchased a lot of these countertop ice makers because they all stop after about a year. This one was my favorite because the top actually closes (some have a gap) and it keeps the ice from melting if it sits for anytime. Unfortunately, this one quit working the fastest. I bought it in October, it stopped working in June. It was great while it lasted but, unfortunately that was only for 8 months.

It’s A Good Ice Maker
Don’t expect it to be a production level ice maker. 26 lbs/day = about 1 lb of ice per hour. The basket holds about 1 lb of ice. As suggested, you need to empty the ice bucket into a separate container and place it into your freezer. The basket is small; I can’t use the scoop because my had + the scoop are too big. I scoop by hand. Would I buy it again? Yes for a family of two. Personally, I prefer counter top ice makers. I prefer the bullet ice makers like this one.

Serving its purpose!!
We’ve only had this for about a week but so far, it’s serving its purpose. Our fridge has two ice makers, but once we use that ice to fill coolers, it takes a long time to fill back up. I’ve been bagging the ice from the countertop ice maker and freezing it. It makes ice SO much faster than our frigerator! About 3 full baskets gives me a gallon bag of ice. We use ice in our coolers multiple days throughout the week and this is making a huge difference! Storing the ice in the freezer makes it more solid so it lasts longer in the cooler too. Hopefully it lasts for a long time!
